Take a high-resolution full frame camera, pack it with sensible features for serious photography and you have EOS 5D.
Let John shorten the learning curve by explaining how to get the best from the cameras features, and turn the best ones to your specific needs. He will deal with colour and resolution for specific end uses, as well as how to maximise the E-TTL flash system, and choose the best lenses.
He then looks at getting the best from the cameras files post capture in Canon and third party software.
Some simple but rewarding photography on the day to put theory into practice will be included.

The D80 is an amazing camera packed with creative potential. Join John as he explains the basics of setting the camera up for different types of photography, then explore with him, just how to fine tune it to your specific needs.
The day will combine easy to follow but informative guidance with some simple but genuinely practical photography. You will leave with a mini portfolio of images for future reference. Supporting notes are also provided.
The day is ideal for those new to digital capture, but also the more experienced photographer working with D80 and it will significantly shorten your learning curve.
The following key areas will be covered:
- Step-by-step easy to follow explanation and demonstration of key D80 features with real world advantages and disadvantages outlined.
- General photography tips from an acknowledged digital imaging expert and working photographer.
- Setting and getting the best from white balance, autofocus and other capabilities.
- Using the right exposure mode and metering choices, plus mastering the cameras histogram.
- Setting your camera for the best Jpeg results.
- An introduction to working with Nikon’s Raw (NEF) file format.
- Getting great results from your onboard Speedlight and flash photography.

Studio Lighting Workshop (Level 2/3) 20th June

Following on from our recent introductory workshop and its explanation of easy to use techniques, or for those already familiar with setting up a basic studio lighting outfit and wanting to do more, we offer this next level course.

Taking a more detailed look at metering for precision and getting the best out of camera file to use, John then enhances on the types of lighting arrangement and the effects you get from using between two and six heads.
In addition we look at alternatives to a basic sized umbrella or softbox effect, and create much more profesional looking results by building up the lighting for both product and people shots with flash and accessories.

However, for those who need a simpler more flexible arrangement, John also demonstrates the currently poplar style portraits of individuals or groups using clean white backdrops.

Please bring cameras, lenses and plenty of storage as this day will include useful amounts of photography to undertake.

Following our introductory workshop on this exceptional camera, now John shows you how too get results to the professional photographers required level. This is equally relevant to the non-professional also looking to get the maximum from their camera. He will show what settings are best for various types of photography from weddings to other types of people shots, through to travel and landscape types of subject to name some. Produce results for quality prints (Ink Jet/Silver Halide), or for images ready to be used in book and other CMYK reproduction routes. Learn how to refine the AF system, explore Focus lock on and understand Dynamic AF for capturing movement, plus the other alternatives on offer. Be guided in setting up one or more of the Custom Optomise Image settings for personal control of the way your images look.

Further important areas worked on include further refinement in getting the best exposure as part of your personal workflow for the type of photography you do through various metering and control methods. See WiFi image transmission in action, and be guided as to how the camera and other aspects of your image making process all link together. All presented in Johns easy going but very informative manner drawing on his proven real world experience.

Please bring your camera, a small mid range lens and if you use one a Nikon Speedlight as there will be some photography to enjoy on the day.
